How to file a civic complaint that gets acted on
The channel that creates a record, what an engineer needs, and the three moves that turn a grievance into a case.
Most complaints in this city die in a WhatsApp group. The ones that get fixed were filed on a channel that creates a ticket, contained what an engineer needs, and someone kept the number.
1. Use the channel that creates a record
For anything civic, start with the GMDA integrated grievance portal: web, toll-free 1800 180 1817, WhatsApp 78400 01817 or the myGurugram app. It routes to MCG, GMDA and MC Manesar, and only the complainant can close a ticket. Electricity is 1912; police matters 112 or the station; a builder, HRERA.
2. Put in what an engineer needs
- The exact spot: sector, street, landmark, ward number.
- A dated photo.
- Since when, and earlier complaint numbers.
- What you want done, in one line.
3. Keep the number and use the ladder
If the promised time passes, escalate to the officer named on the ticket, then the zone Joint Commissioner or Chief Engineer, then Commissioner and Mayor, then CM Window. Attach the history at each step. Need proof of what was sanctioned? An RTI for the work order costs 10 rupees.
